Gerrit Buurman is a Manager with Catenion and lives in Berlin.

Gerrit has worked for several different large and mid–sized client organisations in the pharmaceutical industry. His expertise includes R&D portfolio management, asset valuation and due diligence. His aim is to provide clients with an independent view on risk, value and strategic fit of internal R&D projects as well as external opportunities.

He has guided a global Pharma company through a difficult post merger integration process to evaluate and consolidate the R&D portfolio comprised of originally more than 100 projects across multiple therapy areas. The results enabled the client to reshape R&D activities and to focus on the most promising value drivers. In parallel Gerrit helped the client to implement Catenion's approach to portfolio management by training managers on the job and during customised training sessions as part of the Catenion Academy.

Before joining Catenion in 2005, Gerrit worked three years for Hofmann La Roche in Basel at the exciting boundary between Pharma research and Diagnostics. An important aspect of his research was to identify novel biomarkers for diagnosis and potential patient selection in autoimmune disorders and oncology.

Gerrit holds a M.Sc. in Chemistry and did his PhD thesis at the Max–Planck–Institute for terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg deciphering the mechanism of an archaic hydrogen–converting enzyme.

Gerrit serves on the board of directors of a privately run non–profit boarding school near Berlin.
